What is Human Geography?
The purpose of the AP course in Human Geography is to introduce students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth's surface. Students employ spatial concepts and landscape analysis to examine human social organization and its environmental consequences. They also learn about the methods and tools geographers use in their science and practice.

FAQ'S For AP Human Geography:
Is this a required course?
No, this course will count as an AP Elective.
When is the AP Exam?
May 5th 2020
What is my child learning about?
Human Geography evaluates the relationship between humans and the physical landscape. Topics which will be discussed include population, culture, agriculture, political geography, industrialization/development, and urban land use.
When are your tutorials?
Wednesdays B lunch and Fridays A-Lunch in room 3722
Upon request, students may also come in other days during HOT Lunch to make up work.
How do I know if my child has homework, project, quiz, or a test?
You or the student can access my class website http://churchillworldhistory.weebly.com/ I do my very best to keep the website updated, but it is ultimately your student’s responsibility to keep up with due dates. This is a college-level class, so I expect more from students in this regard.
How can I contact you if I have concerns?
The best way is email, my email address is [email protected] I do not have a direct phone line
When do you update your grade book?
I try to update all new grades within 1-2 weeks (make-up work may be longer). Assessments with written responses take longer.
Why does my student’s grade say EXEMPT or N/A or it is left blank?
This means I have not yet entered a grade for your student (it is blank in my grade book). If the grade is exempt the student does not need to make it up. If the grade is empty the student has until the next interim to makeup the work before it becomes a permanent zero.
Blank marks in the grade book are automatically calculated as zeroes, so if a grade has not been entered yet because it is late or because the system has not updated it will have a negative effect on the overall grade.
Are there any resources you recommend for this class?
I do not officially endorse a particular study aid, but there are several review books which can help simplify the complex concepts we discuss in class. Many of these are available used online. Examples of these include:
- Baaron’s AP Human Geography
- AP Human Geography Crash Course
- 5 Steps to a 5
Is there anything extra I can do to help my student and the class?
Discuss topics we have talked about in class, it is always nice to get a different perspective on history and it allows the student to recall and explain topics we cover in class which reinforces learning. Spend a few minutes each night reviewing vocabulary. Flash Cards are Great!!
